“Pedacito de mi tierra”

Travel with me to “Laguna del Diablo”

In One of my trips to the island, Dominican Republic my beautiful country, my friend and I decided to take a 2 days trip to Samana to take some photographs and amuse ourselves. While we were there we asked the locals that we wanted to climb up to get a good view of the amazing landscape in the area and one of them told us he will take us to a hidden place up in the mountains. We agreed to go venture since our trip was short we wanted to see something different. As we drove he explained that at one point we will have to leave the car and do a trek of one hour up the hill that was very muddy and wet because of the rain. While we walked up the guide was telling us that it used to be a preserved area where they used to bring a lot of tourist and the condition to reach were better but the organization and the country failed to help the charitable organization to keep up with the project to make a better road and preserve this treasure called “Laguna del diablo”. I have to say we were amazed with the beauty of mother nature.  As arriving to Laguna, one could feel something special and mysterious in the area. The place is surrounded by caves that I wouldn’t dare to enter  and it is said the Lagoon has a hidden treasure thats never been found.

There are many legends about the name of this place that comes from the times of colonialism. The local people believe that “La Laguna del Diablo”  is the work of the devil to deceive the greed of men, and in vain, even in the days of the Republic, have formed partnerships to drain this lake that, like Cabral, presumably saved fabulous wealth.

Hope you enjoy this entry. I really love my country and to share with you one of our hidden treasures in the island.
